Things to Consisder While Renting a Place

A lot of the questions mentioned below are connected to each other but are something which you would find yourself asking each other at some point of time. If however you don't end up going over them repeatedly then its good for you coz you would need less space as opposed to us where we always have to think about my alter ego who still thinks that he's in India.

- Can you afford to spend time traveling?
If not then it makes sense to stay closer to office where in you can just walk to work rather than driving or taking a subway or Go train to work.

- Do you have kids/pets?
If yes then move to the suburbs or mid down area - Downtown Toronto doesn't quite provide a lot of space for kids to grow up at ease. Same holds for Dogs to some extent.

- Whats the budget Vs What are your needs(in terms of space/amenities)
Since you are renting i would assume that you would want to pay as lil as possible and want a penthouse right in the center of the downtown with a private elevator (until and unless you are a lil disoriented like we where we need to see people(young and old) around including kids/dogs). This is something which we also are learning right now.

- Are both of you working?
If yes then stick close to office - time spent traveling can be used to catch up on pending things at home.

Home - Rental/Buying your own?

When we both were in India discussing things like what do we want to do about getting a house.

Do we want to rent it or not and for how long do we need to think about renting it. We were always sure about the fact that we would need to rent out to start on with and then eventually decide.

Between the 2 of us we decided on a period of 1 year to start on with.
The thought being that if we like the place and people we would think about buying a place there.

Welcome Note

Hello,
I'm Jaspal Sawhney 26, an IT Jar Head also working under the better known and much publicized term of IT Consultant. Got married recently and moved to Toronto with wife Aastha. Toronto where I'm going to based out of for the next 2 years. This Blog is aimed to serve as a sure shot guide for 'Settling in Toronto For Dummies' where i would talk about things which we uncover about the place, weather (Which she hates) and yada yada.

Stress is to be laid upon stuff like how to get going while you in the city, big stuff like housing, cars, renovations to important stuff like Shot dispenser for home and to top it all. The *FOB Dilemma which we face as we go about.
